    Al-Rumaih: We will continue to develop the sector, fight concealment, and prevent the foreign trucks​


    His Excellency the Chairman of the Public Transport Authority, Dr. Rumaih bin Muhammad Al-Rumaih, affirmed the authority's keenness to develop the logistics sector through a set of approved work plans and partnerships with the public and private sectors, indicating that work is continuing to combat all negative phenomena that may disrupt the mission of the sector's advancement, including cover-up and truck work. This came during a remote meeting organized by the Asharqia Chamber represented by the Logistic Committee today, Wednesday 03/03/2021, and moderated by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Chamber, Abdul-Hakim bin Hamad Al-Ammar Al-Khaldi, in the presence and participation of the Chairman of the Chamber's Logistic Committee, Rakan Al-Ataishan.​


    Al-Rumaih said in his speech to investors in the logistics sector that transport activities have a fundamental and influential role in the development of logistics, adding that it is a shared responsibility among all. The investor in logistics is the son of the homeland and means the development of the sector as well as government agencies, and from this point of view, the Public Authority for Transport was keen to provide a solid ground To legislate and regulate through the regulations it issues, and through the workshops, it establishes in all regions of the Kingdom in partnership with the Chambers of Commerce, because everyone’s goal is to reach a better reality, and to strengthen the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics center to achieve the 2030 vision.​


    Al-Rumaih stressed during the meeting that the authority pays great attention to the problem of concealment because it has many negative aspects for the economy, society, and investors, and because the transport sector is "large and influential", it must be controlled and developed, and this is everyone's task, explaining that the need for concerted efforts is based on the authority's conviction of the importance of The cooperation of indispensable partners to correct the existing situation and pave the way for the systems to speak their word and advance the transport and logistics sector in general, and among the most important partners is the Ministry of Interior with its security sectors such as traffic and road security, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Human Resources, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs, the Ministry of Trade, and of course the private sector that We consider it an important partner in this aspect.​


    Regarding the violating foreign trucks, Al-Rumaih described this issue as "painful", and stated that the authority is conducting continuous monitoring campaigns in partnership with the security services, to which he thanked and appreciated him, indicating that the violations of foreign trucks are not solved by issuing violations only, as a committee has been formed that includes representatives from 11 A government agency issued 18 recommendations on its way to activation, and Al-Rumaih believes that activating the recommendations will eliminate this phenomenon, God willing, including the application of all the requirements applied to the national carrier, and the technical connection so that entry and exit are not allowed without paying violations, and not issuing an entry visa in the event of any violations We have coordinated with many government agencies not to have factories and stores contracting with a foreign carrier for internal transport, because this will positively reflect on activating the systems, strengthening the economy and raising local content, explaining in his speech that efforts are continuing in this regard, and the follow-up is ongoing.​


    Regarding the multiplicity of legislating bodies for the logistical sector, Dr. Al-Rumaih said that the sector is by its nature complex and linked to several bodies, such as transport, customs, ports, and several partner agencies, and the activity also connects to warehouses and warehouses and their independent controls. Establishing an umbrella for the logistics sector under the Ministry of Transport, and there is also an important initiative to unify logistical licenses with all partners through one platform.


    ​His Excellency affirmed the authority’s keenness to work jointly with all concerned government agencies and to coordinate to solve and address any obstacles or issues related to transport activities. The main purpose of the authority is to regulate the activities of land, maritime, and rail transport in a way that ensures raising the efficiency and quality of transport services and this is reflected in raising the local content and enhancing the economic aspect and its diversity And opening opportunities for settlement by adhering to the principle of sustainability, revealing a study carried out by the Authority for Maritime Transport, which concluded that linking to coastal transport has financial feasibility that will give the private sector promising investment opportunities in the Eastern Region.​


    I​n a comment by Al-Rumaih on the step of merging the General Corporation for Railways with the Saar Company, he stressed that it is an important step to achieve flexibility in the railway sector, and an important step to raise efficiency and unify the reference, especially since the railway sector is on the verge of major development and expansion that requires such unification, in addition to that the merger will enhance From standardizing quality and efficiency standards leading to strengthening the economy by owning the infrastructure and providing an important service from the same entity as is the case in international best practices, and this standardization will help further growth in the logistics industry through an important pillar in any development direction and the name of this pillar (Railways).​​
